What would happen if you buy or sell a vehicle with outstanding finance?


Outstanding finance occurs when the previous owner still owes money on the vehicle but sells it. Selling an outstanding finance vehicle is illegal, and you can be sued for scamming (never sell a vehicle without giving prior information about the used car’s financial status).

If you have bought a vehicle with outstanding finance unknowingly, you might have a chance to file for a legal case, but most of the times, if the finance has not been paid, then the agency has all the rights to reclaim the car since you are not the legal owner.
